Review of the 2008 activities
General information on the Society The Czech Musicological Society (Česká společnost pro hudební vědu, o.s.) was founded in 1990, and up to 2000 was member of the Association of Musicians and Musicologists (AHUV). Its members are musicologists living, working and studying in the Czech Republic, and also abroad. Its aim is to help to create conditions for the continuation and development of musicological research and the presentation of its results. To support this aim, the Czech Musicological Society regularly organises scholarly conferences and student reaserch competitions, links with other musicological and music organisations at home and abroad, and protects specialist interests of its members, and issues publications. At present, the Czech Musicological Society has eighty-four members, including three foreign and five honorary members.

The 2008 Annual Conference of the Czech Musicological Society The subject of the annual, international conference of the Czech Musicological Society was the Phenomenon of sponsorship in music culture / Kabeláč – Ištvan (Fenomén mecenášství v hudební kultuře / Kabeláč – Ištvan); the conference took part from December 5th-6th, 2008, in the Czech Museum of Music, Prague, in co-operation with the Department of Music History of the Ethnological Institute of the Academy of Sciences, the National Museum-Czech Museum of Music, and the Institute of Musicology of the Faculty of Arts of the Masaryk University Brno. Thirty papers were presented at the conference; it was attended by about fifty listeners. The participants came mainly from the Czech Republic, but also from Slovakia, Germany and Slovenia. The conference included a concert of works by Miloslav Ištvan, a gift of the Brno artistic association Sdružení Q. The conference papers are to be published in the Miscellanea z výročních konferencí ČSHV [The Czech Musicological Society Annual Conference Miscellanies].
